Civil
War Victorian Purple White Plaid Dress. |

This
antique Victorian Civil War era purple white plaid wool dress dates
from the 1860s. It is made of a purple and white plaid checkered
pattern fine wool fabric. This beautiful two piece dress has a short
fitted bodice, with a folded collar neckline, full sleeves and purple
wool zig-zagging trim across the front and sleeve cuffs. It is fully
lined, with hooks & eyes for closure hidden down the front and
covered with decorative purple wool button trim. The bodice measures
14 inches long, with a 22 inch waist and 32 inch bust. There is
a separate matching fabric full hoop skirt which is unlined, with
a hidden linen pocket sewn inside and blue linen waistband with
no closure. The skirt measures 41 inches long, with a 30 inch waist.
This early American Civil War era outfit is in as-is condition and
would be great for study, pattern or could be restored by a talented
seamstress. There are several small holes and some faint age spots
on the skirt. The bodice has frayed splits under the arms, but the
lining is in tact (see bottom photo for close-up). $200 |
