| This
antique early Victorian era roller print brown calico dress dates
from the 1840s. It is all hand stitched and made of a brown calico
fabric with an early roller print red floral pattern design. The
bottom 9 inch hemline of the skirt is lined in an indigo blue and
white calico fabric. This wonderful work dress has a pleated front
bodice, long narrow sleeves with ruffled trim at the elbows, cartridge
pleats around the waist and a full hoop skirt. The inside bodice
is lined in a homespun linen, with an attached inner cotton camisole
modesty panel across the bust and brass hooks & eyes for closure
down the front. The dress measures 52 inches long, with a 26 inch
waist, 34 inch bust and 13 inch back. It is in as-is condition and
could be used for study or pattern. There are several small tears
in the fabric, also some water spotting stains and under arm discoloration.
This is a wonderful American early example of a working cotton dress.
