Early
Black Silk Ribbon Lacing Ladies Straight Sole Shoes. |

| This
pair of antique early black silk ribbon lacing ladies straight sole
shoes date from the 1820s. They are all hand stitched and made of
black silk, with a tiny black silk ribbon bow trim sewn onto the
front vamp instep. These French ladies ballet slipper style flat
shoes have ribbon laces, slightly squared toes, straight leather
bottom soles and no left or right distinction. They are lined in
linen and white kid leather, with left and right hand written inside
in French. The shoes measure 9 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide.
They have been gently worn and the silk ribbon laces have been replaced.
These delicate silk slippers were probably reserved for indoor wear,
evening dress or special occasions. The outer shoe silk fabric is
in surprisingly excellent condition with no wear or splits. These
are a rare and early find which are a deaccession from the Montclair
Art Museum. $250 |
