Early
Black Silk Ribbon Lacing Ladies Straight Sole Shoes c1836. |

This
pair of antique early black silk ribbon lacing ladies straight sole
shoes date from 1836. They are all hand stitched and made of black
silk. These French ladies ballet slipper style flat shoes have ribbon
laces, squared toes, straight leather bottom soles and no left or
right distinction. They are lined in linen and white kid leather,
with a hand written note inside "My Wedding Shoes Sept. 26,
1836" and the original paper label still inside of one shoe
from "N.A. Rogers & Co. Makers, 409 Broadway, New York".
The shoes measure 9 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide. They have
been gently worn and one silk ribbon lace is missing. These delicate
silk slippers were reserved for indoor wear, evening dress or special
occasions and this pair were actually someone's wedding shoes. The
outer shoe silk fabric is in surprisingly excellent condition with
no wear or splits. These are a rare and early find which are a deaccession
from the Montclair Art Museum. $250 |
