This pair of rare antique Chinese bound foot high style boot shoes date from the early 1900s. They are hand stitched and made of a black silk shoe, with pastel raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of a lotus flower and a royal blue silk top. There is silk brocade ribbon trim edging around the middle. The shoes have quilted fabric bottom soles and are fully lined padded for warmth during cold weather. These small dainty high style boot shoes extend upward to give the appearance of a legging. They are for a loose bound foot which gave the appearance of a bound foot without the permanent deformity. For over a thousand years Chinese women's beauty was judged by the size of their feet, which the ideal foot size was three inches long and shaped like a lotus bud flower. The shoes measure 6 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches long. These shoes have been gently worn and are truly a beautiful one of a kind piece of Chinese textile art which would make for a wonderful display piece. $100 |
