antique Victorian era mourning bonnet dates from the 1890s. It is
made of a black woven curly wool covering a small crescent moon
shaped hat frame. There is black velvet trim edging the front and
a black silk bow on the back holding a small purple feather in place.
The colors purple and black were often used for the various stages
of mourning. There are black silk ribbon ties for securing under
the chin. The bonnet is fully lined in black silk with a "M.B.
Wilson - 262 Essex St. Salem, Mass." label inside. It measures
6 inches wide and 5 inches tall. This petite diminutive tiny half
bonnet is in excellent condition and could be worn or used for display
on an antique doll. |
