Chinese
Immortals Peking Knot Textile Cloth. |

| This
rare antique Chinese immortals Peking knot textile cloth dates from
the Qing Dynasty, around 1880. It is made of a plum purple colored
wool felt fabric background with colorful Peking knot blind forbidden
stitch embroidery work done throughout. There are a variety of flowers
and Chinese figures. The figures are beautifully embroidered in
silk raised padded satin stitch embroidery work and represent the
Eight Chinese Immortals. The eight immortals are legendary beings
in Daoist beliefs said to have attained immortality through studying
natures secrets. There is also an intricately embroidered pekinese
dog. The tiny seed stitch stitching is amazing and covers the entire
piece. Many long hours would have gone into embroidering this large
cloth. This unusual large textile tablecloth could also be used
as a bed cover or wall hanging, measuring 66 by 72 inches, and weighing
approximately 4 pounds. It is in good useable condition with only
a few tiny moth holes and nips around the borders edging. All of
which is barely noticeable. There is also some slight overall fading
of the purple wool color. This is truly an amazing piece of antique
Chinese textile art with wonderful workmanship. $1,700 |
