Silver & Gold Sequin Brisé Fan & Box. |

| This
antique Victorian era silver and gold sequin brisé fan and
box dates from the 1880s. It is made of an off white canvas netting
with silk inserts and hand sewn tiny gold and silver sequins in
a variety of shapes and sizes sewn onto the front. There are carved
horn sticks and guards with a gold floral embossed pattern, silver
disc inlays and a brass loop rivet attached on the bottom holding
the fan together. It comes in the original box from the "B.
Altman & Co., New York" store with padded white silk lining
inside. This pretty petite brisé fan might have been used
by a lady for a ball dance or wedding. The fan measures 7 1/2 inches
long and 14 inches wide when opened. This fabulous fan is in excellent
useable condition, but has had a minor repair on the back to one
bone stick (see bottom photo for close-up). |
