Antique Embellished Embroidered Crazy Quilt. |
This
magnificent Victorian era antique embellished embroidered crazy
quilt dates from 1891. It is all hand stitched and made up of a
variety of colorful silk and velvet dress fabric remnants. This
extravagantly embellished crazy quilt patch style pattern design
has a variety of hand stitching needlework. There are hand painted
silk patches of flowers, birds, a girl and her cat. There is an
embroidered circular fan design, embroidered flowers, leaves, anchor,
initials and date of "1891". Also incorporated in the
patchwork design is a political ribbon for the election of Benjamin
Harrison the 23rd President of the United States. There is exceptional
needle work done around each fabric patch in a variety of colorful
stitches and a burgundy red cotton fabric quilted hand tied backing
with red chenille and gold metallic thread wrapped rope trim edging.
This outstanding museum quality quilt has been beautifully hand
made with wonderful workmanship. It measures 74 by 59 inches. The
quilt is in excellent clean useable condition and came straight
out of a trunk. There are no splits or stains on the quilt. This
is truly a superb piece of antique textile quilting folk art. $850 |
