Chinese Gold Couching Dragon Red Pouch Purse. |

This antique Chinese gold couching dragon red pouch purse dates from the late Qing Dynasty 19th century. It is all hand stitched and made of red silk, with silver and gold metallic thread couching embroidery work. There are embroidered dragons on both sides with raised padded stitch heads for good fortune. This small pouch style purse has a pleated gathered top, is fully lined in linen, with a silk rope drawstring and knotted tassel fringe trim accent. These pouches also called pockets were meant to hold small things such as coins or seals since there were no pockets on the clothing. The purse measures 3 inches tall and 5 inches wide. This tiny pretty pouch purse is in as-is fair condition, with fraying along the silk pleated top, seamed edging and there are some loose metallic threads. It is a beautiful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile art and is a deaccession from the Brooklyn Museum collection. $50 |
