Vintage Bonwit Teller Burgundy Red Velvet Gold Soutache Trim Belted Gown Dress
This vintage Bonwit Teller NY burgundy red velvet gold soutache trim gown dress dates from the 1940s. It is made of a lustrous dark red burgundy color velvet fabric with gold metallic soutache braided rope trim embroidery work of scrolling floral vine leaf designs on the front top, neckline and sleeve cuffs. This gorgeous gown evening maxi dress is a long floor length with a back train skirt, squared neckline, slight shoulder padding, gathered shoulders, long full sleeves, a belted velvet tie sash, front zipper closure and is unlined. There is a "Bonwit Teller, Inc. Fifth Avenue New York" department store label sewn inside. The dress measures 60 inches long in the front, 70 inches long in the back, with a 38 inch bust, 28 inch waist, 56 inch hips, 23 inch long sleeves and a 14 inch back. It is in good as-is condition, with some fraying small holes along the back bottom hem, two cigarette burn holes on the back skirt and some small faint staining discoloration on the side front top (see close-ups). This is truly a stupendously luxurious piece of velvet wearable textile art!
