This antique Victorian era bustle back wire hoop crinoline cage petticoat skirt support dates from the 1880s. It is made of a bell shape wired frame wrapped with off white linen fabric tape, metal rivets and linen cloth straps connecting the hoops. This wonderful womans collapsible cage petticoat has a protruding bustle hump on back and an adjustable waistband strap with buckle clasp closure on the front. This unique undergarment is a type of framework that would have been worn under a bustle dress to expand the fullness and support the back drape of the fanned train skirt. The bustle hoop cage petticoat skirt measures 33 inches long, 52 inches in circumference at the bottom and has a 24 inch waistband. It is in fair as-is condition needing some restoration repairs, with frayed linen tape exposing the wire underneath, a frayed waistband strap attached with safety pin and has a broken missing piece of wire on the front (see close-ups). This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of antique Victoriana structured underpinning wearable art!
