This fabulous vintage Japanese gold phoenix embroidered uchikake wedding kimono dates from the Showa period 1960s. It is made of an off white ivory color silk fabric, with gold embroidered phoenix birds, orange, gold, silver and green embroidered pines and plum cherry blossoms. The mythical phoenix bird represents fire, the sun, justice, obedience and fidelity. This magnificent unique uchikake wedding kimono would have been worn by the bride at a wedding ceremony. It is fully lined in a shiny gold copper metallic fabric, with a large 6 inch gold rolled padded bottom hem. The kimono measures 77 inches long, with 40 inch long swinging furisode sleeves, is 52 inches across from sleeve end to sleeve end. It is quite heavy weighing almost 8 pounds. It is in excellent wearable condition, with only a few tiny faint age spot stains on the shoulders and sleeves. This is a truly a magnificent piece of wearable Japanese textile art. |
