This antique Victorian era gentlemen's mourning wheat brocade double breasted waistcoat vest dates from 1870. It is hand stitched and made of a black silk brocade fabric with a brown weeping wheat pattern design. Wheat was a classic Victorian mourning symbol. There is a brown polished cotton fabric backing, with an adjustable buckle strap on back. It is lined in linen with a hidden inside breast pocket, cotton batting lining the front and leather trim edging along the bottom. This gentlemen's magnificent mourning waistcoat vest has a double breasted style, narrow lapel collar, three front slit pockets and silk fabric covered buttons for closure on the front. The vest measures 19 inches long, with a 34 inch waist and 36 inch chest. It is in good wearable condition, with only some slight wear fraying along the back collar and one button is missing. This is truly a wonderful antique Victorian vest.
