Japanese Geisha Silk Screen Childrens Day Kimono. |
This vintage Japanese geisha silk screen Children's Day kimono dates from the 1960s. It is hand stitched and made of a bright blue silk damask wavy patterned textured fabric. There are colorful silk screen painted whimsical designs of children at play done along the bottom hem and sleeve. The children are playing follow the leader, spinning top, ball and hopscotch. This fabulous Japanese senior geisha kimono robe would have been worn for Children's Day a Japanese national holiday on May 5th celebrating children's happiness. The kimono is quite heavy weighing over 2 pounds and measures 65 inches long, with 21 inch long kimono sleeves and is 54 inches across the shoulders. It is in good wearable condition, but does have a few faint small stains on the sleeves and front lapel (see close-up). This is a wonderful piece of wearable Japanese textile art. $100 |
