This antique Victorian era bustle ruffle crinoline cage petticoat support dates from the 1880s. It is made of an off white ecru cream color cotton fabric, with a three tiered layered gathered dust ruffle bottom hemline and long metal stays sewn inside for added fullness and support. There is adjustable drawstring lacing inside and a tie strap belt with pearl button closure at the waist. This unique undergarment is a type of framework that would have been worn under a bustle dress to expand the fullness or support the back drape of the fanned train skirt. The bustle support cage petticoat skirt measures 28 inches long, 21 inches wide, with a 30 inch waistband. It is in good wearable condition, but has not been cleaned, with several age spots, yellowing discoloration and a broken drawstring in the middle. This is a rare find.
