Victorian Antique Lilac Purple Embroidered Wool Shawl. |
This antique Victorian era lilac purple embroidered wool shawl dates from 1900. It is hand stitched, made of a light purple lilac color fine wool fabric, with lilac purple silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work, french knots and drawn cutwork details. There is a floral vine leaf and sheer ribbon bow design done on one corner, leaving the rest of shawl unadorned. There is a fabulous hand knotted heavy macramé lilac purple silk fringe which measures 15 inches long on the embroidered corner and a less elaborate fringe surrounding the rest of the shawl. The shawls fabric square measures 70 by 70 inches. This quality made shawl could also be worn as a cloak cape which someone has added a lilac crochet button, loop and silk ribbon closure (see close-up). It is in excellent wearable condition, with only a tiny pin hole. This is truly an exceptional piece of wearable textile art.
