Chinese Black & White Silk Embroidered Robe Coat. |
This vintage Chinese black and white silk embroidered robe coat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black silk satin fabric, with white silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of peony flower basket vases done in roundel medallions. The peony is a symbol of love and affection and is representative of good luck. This beautiful robe surcoat is long mid length, loose fitting, with a high mandarin collar, white silk trim edging, long full sleeves, bottom side slits and carved brass ball button toggle closures down the front. It is fully lined in black silk, with an old "Made in China" tag sewn inside. The robe measures 43 inches long, with 50 inch hips, waist, bust and 24 inch cuffs. It is in good wearable condition, with only some slight wear fraying around the collar and white silk trim. This is a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art.
