Victorian French Sapphire White Lace Coutil Corset Garters. |
This antique Victorian era French Sapphire white lace coutil corset garters dates from 1902. It is made of an off white ivory color cotton coutil fabric, with white satin and lace trim edging around the top and a bow accent on front. This beautiful bridal corset has a short S bend shape, with a slightly curved busk, hook front laced closure back, boned stays sewn inside, stitching around the waist and four adjustable stocking suspender garters with fleur-de-lis decoration. There is an ornate sword shaped busk hook on front stamped "Depose J.B.G. Paris", which were often seen on European corsets and were used to anchor the waistbands of petticoats and to tie the excess ends of the corset lacing around the waist. It is stamped inside "Sapphire", with a soft mohair lined busk. The corset measures 12 inches long, with a 34 inch bottom, adjustable 21 inch waist and 28 inch bust. It is in excellent wearable condition, with only minor wear, a few small faint age spots and some fraying of the corset strings lacing. It is a museum deaccession and a rare find.
