This antique Alsace France folk costume corset corselet vest dates from the mid 1800s. It is hand stitched, made of a black silk stiffened quilted fabric, with gold metal thread embroidery work done in a floral design and gold metallic trim edging. There are silver metallic beaded trim accents along the sides, with chain latch hooks, hook & eye closures. This women's fabulous folk peasant costume corset waist corselet vest style top has shoulder straps, a squared neckline and white kid leather trim edging coming to a point at the bottom. It is fully lined in a calico cotton ticking print fabric which has some small age spot stains. This was made by the Alsatian people of the Alsace region of France and Germany. The corset measures 20 inches long, with a 34 inch waist and 40 inch bust. It is in good wearable condition, but does have some wear to the silk fabric and trim. This is truly rare and wonderful piece of wearable Alsatian French textile folk art.
