This antique Chinese figural embroidered silk aubergine robe coat dates from the 1920s. It is hand stitched, made of an aubergine eggplant dark brownish purple color silk satin fabric, with colorful raised padded satin stitch embroidery work. There are embroidered figural women and scholars in roundel medallions, with butterflies and flowers. There is a white silk trim edging border with blue and white silk embroidery work flowers and gold couching work lion foo dogs with "Wheel of the Karma" design done along the sleeve band cuffs. This beautiful robe surcoat is long mid length, loose fitting, with an attached round collar, long full sleeves with flared wide cuffs, side vents and black silk knotted button toggle closures down the front. It is fully lined in a gray silk damask floral pattern brocade fabric. The robe measures 38 inches long, with 48 inch hips, waist, bust and a 30 inch sleeve cuff circumference. It is in excellent wearable condition, with only some frayed missing toggle closures. This is a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art.
