Chinese Dragon Gold Embroidered Piling Court Collar. Tweet
|
This antique Chinese dragon gold embroidered piling court collar dates from the mid 1800s during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a blue silk damask brocade fabric, with a black silk overlay, colorful raised padded satin stitch embroidery work and gold thread couching work done with tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There are embroidered dragons, pearls, clouds, bats, lotus and peony flowers, with waves of water along the bottom. This magnificent Manchu women's formal court collar piling would have been worn over a chaofu chaopao coat robe. It has a wide, triangle shape which flared over the shoulders at the back giving it a tippet hood style. There are loops sewn onto the front, but the button toggle closure is missing. The collar measures 90 inches in circumference. It is in as-is fair condition, with some fraying on the black silk and loose gold thread work (see close-up). It could use some restoration. This is a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art. |
