This vintage Spanish dancer striptease matador costume was worn by the performer Carmen Mendez known as "Carmencita" and dates from the 1940s. It is custom made, with bright colorful fluorescent neon colored hand sewn sequin beading and fabrics which were used for her exotic black light performances. The outfit is created from colorful satin nylon ribbon work connected together with thread brides and bars. This fabulous Spanish Dancer burlesque striptease costume includes a cropped top, belted pants, gloves and hat. The short cropped top bolero style jacket has broad shoulders with winged epaulets, a high collar neckline, pink beaded fringed trim and tassels, with hook & eye closures down the front. It measures 13 inches long, with a 32 inch bust. There are pantaloon style short pants, with attached sheer nylon nude fitted leggings, beading and fringe tassels. Attached to the front waist is a sequined circular belted front, with hook & eye closures down the back. The pants measure 27 inches long, the shorts 13 inches long, with a 30 inch waist. There are fingerless long mitt gloves, with ribbon work fronts, a sheer mesh backing and finger loop. The mitts measure 21 inches long. Included is a montera style bullfighter hat with matching ribbon work and an elastic band for securing underneath. The hat measures 12 inches long, 7 inches wide and 20 inches inside circumference. This theatrical ensemble is well constructed and was custom made for the exotic striptease Spanish Dancer star Carmencita who performed in a variety of venues from San Francisco's historic Barbary Coast to the all girl revue at the Persian Palms in Minneapolis (see ads below). The traje de luces Spanish bullfighters matador inspired outfit was stage worn and is in good wearable condition, with some wear, a few loose missing beads, fraying under the arms, soiling inside the hat and some rips in the net gloves backing. This is truly a rare unique one of kind find.
