This vintage Chinese figural floral butterfly embroidered purple silk robe coat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a purple silk satin fabric, with colorful raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There are embroidered figural women in roundel medallions, with butterflies and flowers surrounding. There is a white silk trim edging border, with colorful silk embroidery work flowers and butterflies. The wide sleeve band cuffs are made of a light lilac purple cut silk weave fabric, with finely embroidered butterflies. This beautiful robe surcoat is long mid length, loose fitting, with an attached round collar, long full sleeves with flared wide cuffs, side vents and blue silk trim edging, knotted button toggle closures down the front. It is fully lined in a gray cut silk weave patterned fabric. The robe measures 39 inches long, with 48 inch hips, waist, bust and a 26 inch sleeve cuff circumference. It is in good wearable condition, with some slight staining, fraying around the collar and a small piece missing on the front (see close-up). This is a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art.
