|
This antique Chinese yellow silk embroidered butterfly Manchu court skirt dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a huang golden yellow color silk damask brocade patterned fabric. There are colorful pastel hand embroidered raised padded satin stitch needlework designs of beautiful butterflies, flowers and blue ink stencil outlines. The butterfly is a symbol of love and affection. The skirt has two matching embroidered apron panels on the front and back, with pleated sides, hidden vine leaf flowers embroidered inside. There is black silk trim edging, with remnants of blue and black silk embroidery work. This Manchu ladies early wrap around style chaoqun court apron skirt has a replaced wide linen waistband sewn along the top and drawstring closure added. The skirt measures 40 inches long, with a 45 inch wide waistband. It is in as-is fair condition, with some damage, fraying, missing silk trim in areas, faint age spotting, fading and missing embroidered thread stitching (see close-up). This is still a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art. $100 |
