Antique Chinese Chartreuse Green Silk Floral Butterfly Embroidered Robe.

Antique Chinese Chartreuse Green Silk Floral Butterfly Embroidered Robe Front view.

This antique Chinese chartreuse green silk floral butterfly embroidered robe dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is all hand stitched, made of a golden yellow green chartreuse color silk damask fabric, with a butterfly and crane roundel medallion brocade pattern. There are varying shades of blue silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work trim, with a floral peony, butterfly design edging. The peony and butterfly are both symbols of love and affection. This magnificent Manchu style surcoat robe is loose fitting, a long mid length, with rounded neckline, black silk trim edging, wide exaggerated full sleeves, decorative side skirt vents and a front opening with loop toggles and round carved brass button closures. There are golden yellow silk sleeve band cuffs, with colorful embroidered butterflies and flowers. It is fully lined in a blue linen fabric. The robe measures 35 inches long, with 60 inch hips, chest, waist and 36 inch sleeve cuff circumference. It is in good wearable condition, with only some slight faint fade discoloration, light age spots on the fabric. There is some fraying and mended repairs on the embroidered trim collar and a tiny fray near the front opening (see close-ups). This is a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!.
