This Victorian era antique large banquet size jacquard hand loom wool paisley shawl dates from the 1880s. It is made of jacquard hand loomed woven wool done in strong vivid vibrant colors of red, orange, gold, teal blue, green, black and white. These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia, India, Russia, USA and Europe in Scotland at Paisley itself. This stunning shawl has exquisite workmanship and detail with a colorful decorative fringed border on the two ends, green selvage along the side edging and a small black wool star center. These paisley shawls were very popular during the mid to late 1800s with at least one being included in every better class trousseau. This outstanding oversized large banquet size shawl throw tablecover measures 125 inches long and 63 inches wide. It is in as-is fair condition, with a small frayed split in the center and several small rewoven repairs and patches near the center (see close-up of back side mends). There are a few tiny holes scattered around the paisley. This is a wonderful piece of paisley textile art!
