This vintage Chinese silk embroidered forbidden stitch lotus flower robe coat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a dark purplish red black color silk satin fabric background, with colorful silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work and tiny forbidden stitch Peking French knot accents. There are embroidered lotus flowers inside roundel medallions. The lotus flower is a symbol of purity and is one of the Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune. This long mid length jacket style robe has a mandarin collar neckline, with blue and silver silk brocade trim edging, silk knotted button loop toggles for closure down the front, long full sleeves and two silk lappet panels hanging down the bottom front. It is fully lined in a pink silk fabric. The coat measures 36 inches long, with 44 inch hips, waist, bust and a 16 inch back. It is in excellent wearable condition. This is a wonderful piece of wearable Chinese art!
