This vintage Portuguese folk costume embroidered wool vest, skirt. apron and purse dates from the 1950s. It is hand stitched, made of a red wool fabric, with colorful decorative wool stitching and embroidery work. The skirt and apron both have a colorful blanket weave woven wool design pattern. This women's pretty Portuguese folk costume outfit includes a vest, skirt, apron and purse. The short cropped sleeveless waistcoat vest is made of red wool and black velvet, with a low front scoop neckline, front lacing closure, lined in muslin and measures 15 inches long, with a 36 inch waist and bust. The skirt has pleating around the waist, a back silk tie closure, cotton print fabric lining the bottom hemline and measures 33 inches long, with a 28 inch waist. There is an apron with ruched pleated gathers along the front top, a ribbon tie back and measures 22 inches long, with a 44 inch waist. Also included is a small decorative shaped pouch purse which ties around the waist, with a pocket front and measures 9 inches long and 6 inches wide. The garments all have wonderful workmanship and hand done details. They are in good wearable condition, with only a few tiny moth nip holes on the skirt and some slight fading discoloration on the front red vest. This is truly a wonderful piece of wearable Portuguese textile folk art from Northern Portugal, Norte Region!
