This fabulous antique Chinese figural peacock silk embroidered Canton piano shawl robe coat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black silk fabric background, with colorful pastel silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There is a lavishly lush floral foliage, figural pagoda, bird and butterfly dense design completely covering the shawl fabric. There are exquisitely embroidered scenes with Chinese figures of scholars, women and a variety of birds throughout. The border trim edging and separate sash tie belt all have the same embroidered peacock design which is a symbol of beauty and dignity. This quality made Manton Canton Chinese Cantonese shawl has been expertly created into a large size loose fitting long robe style coat jacket, with an embroidered lapel collar, long full wide sleeves, matching belted sash closure and is fully lined in black silk. The coat measures 45 inches long, with 64 inch hips, waist, bust, 32 inch sleeve cuff circumference and a 70 inch long belt. It is in excellent clean wearable condition. The photos do not do it justice and it is even more amazing in person, as this is truly one of the best shawl coats I have ever seen! This is an exceptional rare piece of one of a kind wearable Chinese embroidery textile art!
