This antique Victorian era black silk tassel jet beaded mantle cape capelet cloak dates from 1880. It is made of a black silk grosgrain ribbed fabric, with diamond shape eyelet cut work designs, outlined in black crochet lace trim. The entire cape is covered with layers of black silk covered tassel balls and jet beading making it quite heavy. There is a beaded silk tassel fringe hanging down along the bottom. This beautiful beaded short mantle cape capelet cloak has a black chantilly lace trim neckline collar, with hook and eye closures down the front. It is fully lined in black silk. The cape measures 15 inches long, with a 40 inch bust and is 16 inches across the shoulders. It is in good wearable condition, with only a few loose missing beads and some fraying of the silk tassels which has worn off in areas (see close-up). This a rare wonderful piece of wearable Victoriana mourning beaded textile art!
