This antique Victorian era black chantilly and white lace rosette ball gown dress bodice and skirt dates from 1890. It is made of a sheer fine black net French chantilly lace, with a swiss dotted design, finely decorated floral foliage leaf pattern outlined in black threads with detailed shading effects and a beautiful decorative scalloped border edging. This lovely lace ball gown two piece dress has a blousey bodice, with a white lace yoke, with silk & gold lamé rosette flower trim, a high neck collar, all backed in baby blue silk, velvet, with a chantilly lace ruffle flounce, 3/4 length full sleeves with gathered trim cuffs and hook & eye closures down the back. It is fully lined in black and has a baby blue pleated silk cummerbund sash belt which measures 30 inches long and 5 inches wide. The bodice measures 19 inches long, with a 30 inch waist, 40 inch bust and 15 inch back. There is a matching long floor length skirt, with a slight train back, attached loop for carrying up when walking and dancing and is fully lined in black silk. The skirt measures 42 inches long in the front, 50 inches long in the back, with a 28 inch waist. It is in excellent wearable condition and has been relined. There are a few tiny holes in the lace and the ruffle flounce collar needs some tacking (see close-up). This is truly an outstanding exceptional piece of wearable Victoriana lace art! |
