This vintage Chinese black silk hand embroidered floral four seasons robe coat dates from the 1940s. It is made of a black silk satin fabric, with colorful pastel silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of peony, lotus, wild plum and chrysanthemum flowers done in roundel medallions. The peony is a symbol of love and affection, representative of good luck. The lotus is a symbol of purity and the wild plum is representative of longevity. The chrysanthemum is a symbol of happiness and a life of ease. These flowers represent the four seasons; fall, winter, spring and summer. This fabulous floor length long robe coat is loose fitting, with an open front, no closure or belt, long full sleeves and is fully lined in black silk, with a "Hand Embroidery 100% Pure Silk" label size Medium tag sewn inside. The robe measures 50 inches long, with 50 inch hips, waist, bust and a 20 inch back. It is in excellent wearable condition. This is a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art!
