This vintage antique Spanish Conquistador Bolivian milkmaids folk costume velvet beaded jacket dates from the mid 19th century. It is hand stitched, made of a textured pattern dark blue velvet fabric, with crystal beading and an off white cream color braided trim. There are decorative floral, dove of peace bird beaded designs, a breastplate style front opening and cream color silk fringe trim along the bottom. This women's fabulous folk costume Victorian era style fitted bodice jacket has an open front with no closure, a squared neckline, long tapered sleeves with mother of pearl button fitted cuffs, pockets and peplum skirted waist. It is fully lined in a heavy homespun linen fabric. The jacket measures 21 inches long, with a 32 inch waist, 36 inch bust, 15 1/2 inch back and 22 inch long sleeves. It is in good wearable condition, with only a few faint small age spot stains (see close-up). This style of jacket were worn by the women of the Bolivian Altipano near the Andes of South America and are reminiscent of Spanish Conquistadors costumes. The beadwork designs are also reminiscent to that of the Native American Iroquois Indians. This is a truly a rare and wonderful piece of wearable South American textile costume folk art! |
