This antique silk embroidered Chinese peacock feather floral Canton piano shawl dates from the 1920s. It is made of an off white cream color silk fabric background, with colorful muted shades of red, pink, purple and blue silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There are beautifully embroidered Chinese peacock feathers with tied ribbon bows, beading and cascading flowers in each corner. There are a variety of unusual shaped flowers and a Chinese decorative motif border edging, with a fabulous hand knotted macramé off white cream silk fringe measuring 20 inches long surrounding the entire shawl with rounded corners. The shawls large fabric square measures 64 by 64 inches. There is a rod pocket linen fabric strip sewn across the top backing for hanging (see bottom photo for close-up). This quality made Manton Canton Chinese Cantonese style Spanish Flamenco shawl is quite heavy weighing 4 pounds and is in good wearable condition. This is truly an exceptional unique rare piece of wearable textile art!
