This antique red silk embroidered Chinese bird butterfly floral Canton piano shawl dates from the 1920s. It is made of a dark red burgundy wine color silk fabric background, with matching red silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There is an intricately embroidered Chinese motif of birds, butterflies and flowers done in each corner and the surrounding border edging. There is a fabulous hand knotted macramé red silk fringe measuring 17 inches long surrounding the entire shawl with rounded corners. The shawls large fabric square measures 63 by 63 inches. This quality made Manton Canton Chinese Cantonese style Spanish Flamenco shawl is quite heavy and is in good wearable condition. The shawl has not been cleaned and has two black smudge mark stains (see close-up). This is truly an exceptional unique rare red shawl and wonderful piece of wearable Chinese textile art!
