This Victorian era antique Kashmir hand embroidered woven pieced paisley shawl dates from the early 1800s. It is all hand stitched and embroidered with colorful natural dyed wool done in strong vivid vibrant colors. This stunning shawl has exquisite workmanship and detail which is all hand embroidered and pieced together by hand in a paisley pine cone shaped tear drop motif known as the boteh and floral leaf designs. There is a small black wool square center, with a fringed decorative beautiful border edging surrounding the shawl. These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia and India. They were very popular during the mid to late 1800s with at least one being included in every better class trousseau. This outstanding shawl measures 67 by 67 inches. It is in good useable condition, with only a few small frayed holes along the border and black wool center which needs mending or replacing (see close-ups). It lays flat without puckering. This is an extraordinary and rare piece of paisley textile art! |
