This fabulous vintage Japanese bamboo crane embroidered uchikake wedding kimono dates from the Showa period 1950s. It is made of an off white cream color silk fabric, with gold metallic silk screen painted bamboo and silver metallic thread raised padded satin stitch embroidered crane birds in flight. The crane is a symbol of luck, longevity and fidelity. This magnificent unique uchikake kimono would have been worn by the bride at a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony. It is fully lined in a white silk fabric, with a label sewn inside and a large rolled padded bottom hem. The kimono measures 80 inches long, with 42 inch long swinging furisode sleeves and is 53 inches across from sleeve end to sleeve end. It is quite heavy weighing over 5 pounds. It is in good wearable condition, with only a few small faint age spot stains on the bottom hem, front opening and inside neckline is slightly soiled.
