This antique Edwardian era Hardanger embroidery lace white linen blouse, skirt dress dates from 1910. It is made of a made of an even-weave heavy quality white linen flax fabric with hand sewn white pearl cotton threads in a raised padded satin stitch embroidery and drawn work. There is the eight-pointed star of Hardanger embroidery inside the diamond design of geometric squares called Kloster Blocks. Hardanger embroidery is a delicate form of open needlework which originated in the Hardanger region of Norway hundreds of years ago. This lovely ladies lace two piece dress includes a high collar blouse, with long full sleeves and tiny crochet buttons down the back for closure. The top measures 24 inches long, with a 38 inch waist and 38 inch bust. There is a matching fabric long floor length skirt, with hook closure on the back. The skirt measures 40 inches long, with a 20 inch waist. It is in good wearable condition, with only a tiny fray on the back collar. This is truly a rare and beautiful piece of wearable Norwegian inspired textile art! |
