Victorian Antique Jacquard Hand Loom Wool Black Star Center Signed Paisley Shawl
This Victorian era antique jacquard hand loom wool black star center signed paisley shawl dates from the 1880s. It is made of jacquard hand loomed woven wool done in strong dark vivid colors. These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia, India and Europe in Scotland at Paisley itself. This stunning shawl has wonderful workmanship and detail, with a fringed border edging and a small black wool star center. The wool center is signed in white hand stitch embroidery work by the weaver (see close-up). These paisley shawls were very popular during the mid to late 1800s with at least one being included in every better class trousseau. This sensational square shawl measures 72 by 72 inches. It is in good condition. This is truly an exceptional rare signed piece of wearable paisley textile art!
