This Edwardian era vintage JJ Pfister Knitting Co. Bayocean bathing suit swimsuit bloomers date from 1915. It is made of a black cotton twill fabric, with a red trim neckline and sleeve cuffs. The front top has "Bayocean" embroidered in red lettering. Bayocean was a planned resort community in Oregon which most famous attraction was a heated natatorium with wave generator and orchestra to entertain the swimmers. It was known as "the town that fell into the sea" and became a ghost town. This wonderful women's old fashioned bathing costume one piece swimsuit has short sleeves, red buttons along the shoulder and attached bloomer pantaloon pants, with gathered leg cuffs and button closure front waist. There is a "Made By J.J. Pfister Knitting Co. San Francisco, California" Size 36 label sewn inside. The swimsuit measures 45 inches long, with an 18 inch inseam, 40 inch hips, a 26 inch waist and 44 inch bust. It is in good condition, with some wear, a small old patch repair on each knee and a 2 tiny pin holes on the back top (see close-up). This antique authentic ladies "bathing beauty" costume is truly a rare and historical find! |
