This Victorian era antique Fuchs & Rosenberger Berlin black silk French knot Battenburg tape lace coat dates from 1900. It is made of black silk appliques, with French knot embroidery work, Battenburg tape lace, button hole stitching, connecting brides and bars. This lovely lace loose fitting coat jacket has a flared swing style, with gathered black silk chiffon ruffle trim edging down the front opening, a black velvet ribbon bow tie trimmed neck collar, full flared wide bell shape sleeves, hook closures on front and is fully lined in black silk. There is a "Fuchs & Rosenberger Berlin" label sewn inside. The coat measures 30 inches long, with 48 inch hips, a 48 inch waist, a 40 inch bust and 15 inch back. It is in good as-is condition, with some breaks in the connecting bars lace and several splits frays in the silk fabric and lining (see close-up). This is still an exceptional beautifully hand made unique one of a kind coat, and a rare find of wearable antique textile lace art from Berlin! |
