This vintage antique Spanish Conquistador Bolivian milkmaids folk costume velvet beaded jacket dates from the mid 19th century. It is hand stitched, made of a dark green velvet fabric, with crystal beading and white braided trim. There are decorative floral, leaf, heart, dove of peace bird beaded designs, a breastplate style front opening and white silk fringe trim along the bottom. This women's fabulous folk costume Victorian era style fitted bodice jacket has an open front with no closure, a squared neckline, long full tapered sleeves with fitted cuffs and a short wide peplum skirted waist. It is fully lined in a cotton printed flour sacking fabric. The jacket measures 21 inches long, with a 34 inch waist, 36 inch bust, 15 inch back and 19 inch long sleeves. It is in good condition, with some loose stitching along the shoulder seams and waist, with a few small faint age spot stains. This style of jacket were worn by the women of the Bolivian Altipano near the Andes of South America and are reminiscent of Spanish Conquistadors costumes. The beadwork designs are also reminiscent to that of the Native American Iroquois Indians. This is a truly a rare and wonderful piece of wearable South American textile costume folk art! |
