This vintage purple silk brocade lamé roses evening gown dress comes from the estate of opera singer Nan Merriman and dates from the 1940s. It is made of a luxurious lavish dark purple silk satin brocade fabric, with a silver metallic thread lamé floral rose pattern design. This gorgeous gown has a long floor length slight back train skirt, scalloped collar neckline, sleeveless, backless and back zipper closure. The dress measures 64 inches long, with 42 inch hips, a 30 inch waist and 40 inch bust. This opulent opera gown was custom made and worn by the famous mezzo-soprano singer Nan Merriman for her live performances (see provenance with play bill info below which is not included with gown). It is in good condition, with only some slight discoloration staining along the bottom skirt hem in areas. This is truly an exceptional quality made piece of wearable art! |
