This antique Chinese blue silk embroidered insect, gourd, peach, floral, longevity robe dates from 1900, the late Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a blue silk damask brocade floral decorative patterned fabric, with yellow, green, chartreuse color raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There are a variety of bug insects crickets, praying mantis, grasshopper, butterflies, gourds, peaches and flowers, symbols for longevity and to ward off evil spirits. There is black and black embroidered and silk trim edging, collar, with chartreuse yellow silk blue embroidered wide sleeve band cuffs, with butterflies and peony flowers. This magnificent Manchu style robe is loose fitting, a long mid length, with a rounded neckline, wide full sleeves and a side opening with black silk loop toggle closures. It is fully lined in a blue cotton fabric. The robe measures 35 inches long, 50 inches across the shoulders and has a 34 inch sleeve cuff circumference. It is in good condition, with only some fraying on the back collar and some soiling staining along the sleeve band cuff trim. This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!
