This antique black and white floral butterfly silk embroidered Canton piano shawl dates from the 1920s. It is made of an off white cream color silk fabric background, with contrasting black silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There is a fabulous floral rose, dragonfly embroidered border with a large beautiful butterfly embroidered in each corner. There is a hand knotted macramé black silk fringe which measures 24 inches long surrounding the entire shawl with rounded corners. The shawls fabric square measures 54 by 54 inches. It is quite heavy weighing over 3 pounds. This quality made Manton Canton Chinese Cantonese style Spanish Flamenco shawl is in good condition, has not been cleaned, with only a few tiny faint age spot stains (see close-up). This is truly an exceptional piece of wearable textile art!
