This antique Victorian era black wool soutache embroidered winter dolman mantle coat cape dates from 1880. It is made of a black wool fabric, with black silk soutache embroidery work braided rope and chenille trim flowers along the bottom, sleeves and down the back. There are two rows of black silk hand knotted fringe trim edging along the bottom. This magnificent winter dolman mantle style coat cape has a black chantilly lace trim ruffle neck collar, set in sleeves with wide flared cuffs, large wool covered buttons down the front for closure and is unlined. The mantle measures 40 inches long, with a 56 inch waist, 40 inch bust and 36 inches across the shoulders. It is in good condition, but the fringe is deteriorating with loose frayed silk strands. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Victoriana wearable art!
