Antique 19th Century Nepalese Nepal Hindu Lakhe Mask Dance Dress Kimono Sleeve
This antique Nepalese Nepal Hindu Lakhe Mask Dance dress with kimono sleeves dates from the late 19th century. It is made of a hand woven muslin fabric with natural dyes and a wood block print of grape leaf and swastika designs. The swastika design is widely used by Nepalese Buddhists, Jainism and in Hinduism where it is well recognized as an important Hindu symbol representing God and energy. This enchanting ethnic dress would have been worn during the Nepalese mask dance "Lakhe Dance" celebration during Yenya the Indra Jatra Festival for the King of Gods & rain. It is a long floor length, loose fitting, with knotted gathered sides on the skirt, long full wide exaggerated kimono style sleeves with tassel trim cuffs and is unlined. The dress measures 57 inches long, with a 52 inch waist and chest. It is in good condition, but does have a worn, distressed primitive look with some yellowing discoloration stains, mended repairs and a frayed neckline & skirt. This is truly a rare and unique piece of antique Nepalese textile folk art!
