This antique Victorian era child's black and red tartan plaid wool embroidered patchwork 2 piece dress dates from 1880. It is made of a black and red tartan plaid wool fabric, with decorative red embroidered sunburst stitching and striped velvet fabric trim edging and cut squares patchwork accents. This charming child's 2 piece outfit was probably for a boy and has a slip style dress with brown polished cotton sleeveless top, plaid fabric pleated skirt and button back closure. The dress measures 23 inches long, with a 22 inch waist and 22 inch chest. There is a matching fabric bodice jacket top, with high neck band sailor back collar, long sleeves, carved round brass button closures down the front, a blue and white polka dot cotton calico fabric waistband and is fully lined. The jacket measures 16 inches long, with a 20 inch waist and 26 inch chest. It is in good condition, with only a tiny moth hole on the back collar. This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of children's wearable Victoriana textile art!
