This antique Chinese Chaogua Longgua silk embroidered sleeveless vest dragon coat dates from 1910, during the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a dark royal purple color silk fabric, with colorful raised padded satin stitch, gold couching work hand embroidery work of five clawed dragons, bats, birds, flowers, swastika characters for longevity, waves of water along the bottom, precious objects and the Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune. This magnificent Manchu surcoat style sleeveless vest imperial court robe Chaogua, Longgua coat is loose fitting, a long mid length, with wide open arm hole sides, crisscrossing straps, colorful beaded tassel trim bottom fringe, a front opening silk knotted button toggle closure, with two tie strips hanging down and is fully lined in a pink silk fabric. The vest measures 30 inches long, with an additional 10 inch long tassel fringe, a 50 inch waist and 50 inch chest. It is in good condition with some frayed, loose missing tassels along the bottom (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art! |
